Andreaceae

n Bot. Family of bryophytes, the only family within the order Andreales. They are brown or blackish plants, about 2 cm high, that grow on granite rocks in cold climates.

This family comprises 2 genera, Andreaea, with about 120 species, and Neuroloma, with a single one.

Type genus: Andreaea.

Etymology

From modern Latin Andreaceae; from Andreaea, name of a plant genus; and the Latin suffix -aceae, «-aceous».
